After seeing his own home on national TV on Dermot Bannon’s Incredible Homes, we reached out to John to design our new home overlooking the sea at Whiting Bay, near Ardmore in County Waterford. We gave John an outline of our requirements. The response was unexpected, we were blown away, a delightful design. The completed house has changed our lives.
John Curran Architects are a genius team, and the level of detail in their drawings is something contractors had never seen before on a residential project. Nothing was left to chance, everything was drawn and specified. Our next project is the refurbishment of a 200 year old stone barn located adjacent to our new home, and we would not think twice about using anyone other than John & his team. Once again his ideas for this are totally unique and we are very much looking forward to getting started on this next phase.

Over a 6 year collaborative partnership, we have enjoyed working with John as our designer in developing a successful commercial brand for our ‘Butterfly District’ – a creative business community that provides a platform for celebrating local and international arts & culture events. We worked closely with John Curran and his team and the process represents a nice memory. In the aftermath of the 2008 Sichuan earthquake, I had the pleasure of working with John Curran and his team, who volunteered to develop and deliver an innovative solution – shipping containers configured into a community centre for a village that had been devastated by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake.
Through close collaboration and an understanding of the real needs on the ground, facilities were designed to support efforts to bring the community back together, hold regular meetings, and provide a safe space for the children.
It was a project that went noticed by China’s top leaders, and inspired other similar projects, but more importantly, is still in use by the community nearly 5 years on since its installation - a testament to the efforts and commitment of John and his team.
