The game of basketball has captured the imagination of the youth of China. The vision for Zhoushan Sports Stadium was to reinvent it as a community hall.  Given a new lease of life, the venue was upgraded for the local team, and became a fitting venue to host national league games.
The flowing lines of the Lantern, appearing as billowing sails captured in the archipelago wind, is inspired by the islands great maritime heritage, recorded for centuries as being one of the great seafaring settlements in China.

Alongside the interior upgrade, the venue houses a range of new support facilities. A new mezzanine, programmed with community centre, restaurant, retail, café & bar, is wrapped inside a new ‘Chandelier Skin’ draped around the perimeter, and connected by an outdoor viewing terrace, opening up the venue for the first time to overlook the wonderful park landscape in which it is set.
